The National Cyber security Coordination Center, in partnership with Carnegie Mellon University Africa, organized a three-day Cyber security Workshop themed “Guardians of the Digital Realm.” Held from February 15th to 17th, 2024, at Limkokwing University in Hill Station, Freetown, Sierra Leone, the workshop aimed to equip educators and students with the necessary skills and knowledge to securely navigate the digital world and to consider cyber security as a promising career option.

During the opening ceremony, Mrs. Mariama Yormah, the Coordinator for the National Cyber security Coordination Center, highlighted the critical importance of cyber security and the growing opportunities in the field. She specifically encouraged students, particularly women, to pursue cyber security careers, citing the escalating demand for professionals in the sector.

The Deputy Minister of Communications, Technology & Innovation, Mr. Ibrahim Sannoh, reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting technology and innovation, underlining the ministry’s unwavering support for the NC3.

Madam Sia Fasuluku, Director of Research Planning and Development from the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education, inspired attendees to be like sponges, absorbing knowledge from the training, and like perfume, sharing the essence of this knowledge with everyone they encounter.

The keynote address by Professor Redwood-Sawyer established the crucial role of cybersecurity, its ethical considerations, and the imperative need for “Guardians of the Digital Realm.”

The workshop concluded with an awards ceremony, presenting prizes to the participants of the 2024 PicoCTF.

The resounding message of the event was clear: Cybersecurity is a collective social responsibility, and we all have a significant role to play in safeguarding our digital future.
